A Level Media NEA – Brief 5: TV drama trailer and culture magazine
TV drama concept
Our coursework brief requires us to create our own TV drama trailer and culture magazine for an original TV drama in the crime or family drama genres. Plan the following:

Title:

Rise Up

Tagline: Fight today for tomorrow's freedom

Genre (and sub-genre/hybrid genre if applicable):

Action and Drama, Crime

Setting (note brief – at least two locations):

London streets, Gym ,

Number of episodes:

First season will have 6 episodes.

Channel and time/day of broadcast (note brief – prime-time, pre-watershed, family audience):

ITV 1 after the water shed

Logline – one sentence that sums up the whole TV drama series and hooks people in (25 words or fewer):

A young teen raised in violence gets involved in a gang, after a series of unfortunate events when all seems lost he is given a chance to change his life will he be able to leave everything he's ever known and start fresh?

Other successful TV dramas that are similar to yours:

Doctor Who, Top Boy

Narrative arc – what happens in the overall series and in what order:

Moses is a troubled teen who has 2 different sides to him one where is a part of a gang and will do whatever he needs to to make himself some money as doesn't really get money from his parent's or his siblings and one where he goes out with his friends every other day to try and live a better life, after seeing one of his good friend's get attacked he decides that he doesn't want this life anymore however he cant leave his gang without causing problems. Moses on his way home saves a coach from being attacked and he offers him a chance to come and train in the gym after discussing with his friends they say that it is a waste of time however he still ends up going and the next dy he goes on his way back something really unfortunate happens which will change everything.

Episodic narratives – what will happen in each episode?

1. You are introduced to Moses and his family and see an insight to his life and what goes on.

2. Now you are aware introduced to Moses's friends and see some issues unfold.

3. Moses is on his way home from a Night out and see's a man getting attacked by 3 men after defending him and knocking out one of them with a single punch the man he saved is a coach and suggests he comes trains with him as he could have hidden potential in the sport off boxing.

4. Moses discusses this with his friends who all mock him and suggest its a waste off time and that he should just stick to his life.

5. At first Moses decides to listen to his friend's and not go to the gym but after hearing his mum speaking of him on the phone in a bad way with nothing positive to say he decides to give it a shot straight away the coach put him with his elder fighters baring in mind he is only 17 and he was able to easily outbox, drop and make his opponents quit. Moses decides he enjoys the sport and start thinking about taking it seriously.

6. Moses is returning from the gym on a late night reaching up to his house he realises that his house is covered with police officers upon opening the door we see Moses face with a massive shock and a tear roll down his eye as the camera zooms in the shot ends with a black screen and ends the season.

Main protagonist – their motivation, conflicts etc.:

Moses Khan, he is raised with parents who didn't pay enough time and effort too him as he had 4 other siblings and one of them had difficulties so she got most of their time and affection and Moses would go out more and more which lead him down a wrong path.

Other characters, their narrative role and their audience appeal:

Moses has 5 closes friends 2 of who are brothers he does everything with his friends however they do not know about the struggle behind him and his gang life.

Target audience for your TV drama (note brief – family audience, pre-watershed broadcast etc.): age, gender, social class, interests, psycho-graphic groups etc.

The target audience would be young teenagers and older as well because some teenagers could reflect on what happens in the show and give them that personal relation with the audience that really lets them relate to what's happening on the show.
