BBFC

1) Research the BBFC in more detail: what is the institution responsible for? How is it funded? What link does it have to government?

The BBFC is responsible for giving films age restrictions and make sure that certain ages are able to watch the film without having the worry that there will be swearing or any sex scenes. Also the BBFC is a non profitable organisation meaning they dont make any money from what the do.

2) Read this BBFC guide to how films are rated. Summarise the process in 50 words.

The films are rated and reviewed in groups of two they look out for different things in movies such as swearing and sex scenes. The films are usually viewed by one person at a time to get the ost honest review out of the people. The movie is also reviewed by more than one team just to make sure that nothing was missed out.

3) Read this BBFC outline of the issues faced when classifying a film. Summarise the debate in 50 words.

One of the issues that they may face is conflict with the law this is an issue because they cannot influence anyone with anyone therefore there will almost always be a precaution when you are watching the movie. Another problem that they may face is when there is a scene where someone is harming themselves, for example if someone is slitting their wrists usually they will not do it correct but if they do the movie will have to be rated higher than usual.

4) Read this BBFC section on controversial decisions. Why did The Dark Knight generate a large amount of media coverage regarding its certificate? Do you agree with the 12A certificate The Dark Knight was awarded?

There was a lot of controversy about the movie being rated 12A because the movie had strong violence in the movie and more than 50% of the movie was violence it was a massive debate whether they should've rated it higher than 12A

5) What are the guidelines for a 15 certificate?

The main guidelines for a 15 certificate is that any harm such as suicide or murder is not performed correctly so that it cannot be copied by the viewers. Also sexually activity can be shown but not in too much detail.

6) The BBFC website offers an explanation of every classification it makes and detailed case studies on selected titles. Look at the rating for Chicken and explain why it was given a 15 certificate.

Chicken was given a 15 certificate because it met the guidelines. For example the movie has strong language, violence and some sex scenes this would already be too much for 12A however none of the above is in enough detail so it doesn't need to be higher than 15
