'Lighting: still image analysis

Picture 1

In the first picture there is a strong contrast between black and white which is created by the smoke which is in front of  the woman who has a mysterious look to her. This affect is best known as chiaroscuro. This creates the affect of horror and mystery which will make us think what kind of character she is. I feel as if this is more bottom lighting because you can actually see the light coming upwards. The affect that this creates is mystery and tension. The smoke suggest that there is something to hide from the audience which may make us think that the woman in the image has done something wrong.

Picture 2

In the second picture there is a lot of low-key lighting because as you can see there is hardly any light in the picture the light that is in the picture is coming down from a side which is high-key. Also there is top lighting which makes her face more clear to us and we can see her emotions more clearly. This lighting has affects of horror and mystery also because we cant really see whats going on in the picture so a lot of mystery is created because we just want to know what she is doing and why shes in jail.

Picture 3

In picture three there is a lot more High-key lighting being used because you can see the persons facial features very easily which means that there is not that much shadow being created. There is a lot of top lighting being used which makes the character look more ferocious and stand out in total. The effect that this has on the audience is that they are a very important character and they will probably play a huge role in the movie( if it is a movie poster)

Picture 4

In picture 4 there is a lot of Low-key lighting being used to create shadows on the characters face and in his surrounding. This suggest that there may be something to hide. I would say that there is a lot of back lighting being used because their is a silhouette being made from his body. This creates the affect of darkness and the affect that there is something to hide or that the character ay have a dark past.

Picture 5

In picture 5 there is a lot of high key lighting but there is some low key lighting which creates the silhouette and the girl in the picture looks very scared as if she is about to die which creates the suspense about whats actually going to happen to her. There is back lighting used in this shot to make the shadow look better. This means that there is horror and tension in the poster.

Picture 6

In picture 6 there is high key lighting being used on the main characters face to show the audience that they are kissing this would mean that this movies is a romance however because of the top lighting being used it could suggest that there is something being hidden from the audience. Therefore this poster could be romantic thriller.

Picture 7

In picture 7 there is low-key lighting being used you can tell this because you can barely see the characters and their facials features are not clear at all. Back lighting is very strongly used in this poster this is shown because you can see the shadows and the silhouette's of the characters very clearly in the shadows. This creates a sense of tension and horror and also mystery because we don't know whats going on.

Picture 8

In picture 8 there is a lot of low-key lighting being used however the characters facial features are still very clear and we can see that she is looking scared/surprised. The back lighting is creating a silhouette which creates her shadow in the background. This means that the genre may be horror or thriller because we cant really see whats happening however cause of the impression we cans see that there is something wrong.

Picture 9

In picture 9 there is high-key lighting being used we can see this because the characters facial features are clear and there aren't that many dark spaces on the poster. There is a lot of top lighting being used to show the character as glamorous and showing them off. This could mean that they are very important or are the main image.

Picture 10

In picture 10 there is low-key lighting used in the image as we cannot see that much on the screen except the main character who is mike Myers. This way all the attention is pointed at mike and people can focus on him. There is a lot of back lighting being used which shows us the shadow figure. This makes the poster scary and people start to think that this is probably a horror or thriller.

Picture 11

In picture 11 there is high key lighting being used which shows the two lovers about to kiss. The high key lighting creates an affect which shows the emotions of the characters on screen for example the male character has a suspicious look as if he is suspicious of the lady. The back lighting creates a shadow affect. Therefore we may think that they are in love but there might be some secrets between them that they haven't told each other.
